What is Yoga Therapy

“Yoga therapy is a holistic healing art. Rather than prescribe treatments, it invites presence and awareness. Using age-old yogic approaches to deeper presence and awareness, we are able to know ourselves more fully. Out of that knowing, we are more easily moved to embrace the opportunity for change, growth, and enhanced well-being in body, feelings, thought, and spirit.”

Anyone looking to find relief from anxiety, increase self-love and compassion, learn how to self-resource, and want to deepen their spiritual journey.

Yoga Therapy sessions can be a conjunction to primary counseling if you are already working with a psychotherapist, they can be a stand alone therapeutic service meaning that you don’t need to be currently working with a therapist, or we can work together combining traditional talk therapy with somatic yoga practices.

What to expect

Identify

A questionnaire is completed prior to us meeting so that I can gain an awareness of why you’re here and put together some thoughts of how you can start to feel sustained relief through yogic practices. These practices will meet you where you are at in your journey and comfort level. Each practice is trauma-informed meaning that you will work towards maintaining a sense of choice, autonomy and safety, through learning accessible tools to self-regulate.

Practice

Some examples of these practices are physical (yoga postures that lean towards more restorative poses), energetic (breathing exercises i.e. bee’s breath for anxiety, breath of joy for depression, alternate nostril breathing for balance), grounding (meditations and visualizations i.e. body scans, happy place, yoga nidra, self-compassion), syadhyaya (introspective i.e. journaling and mudras i.e. gardua mudra to calm anxiety, or bhu mudra to ground).

Live

You will leave each session with tools to practice daily on your own. Research suggests that the most sustained benefit and relief is from consistent, routine sadhana (or practice)
